Underground Line Strike & Emergency Response

Unwanted injuries, outages, delays, and costs occur when underground damage prevention practices are not followed. C Below Subsurface Imaging visited the Underground Line Strike & Emergency Response Event put on by the California Regional Common Ground Alliance and San Bernardino County Fire. The crews demonstrated a mock gas line fire to show what can happen when underground utilities are not accurately located, or even generally marked out by DigAlert. The technology and services are readily available and the number of line strikes should be dramatically decreasing or even be zero on projects. The problem often comes when there is no funding available to determine underground utility locations before design, or prior to digging.
